Complete Exam

Your dental examination involves a thorough assessment of the health of your entire mouth. We begin with a review of your medical health history, checking for anything that could affect your oral health or dental treatment. Of course we will look for tooth decay and gum disease, but we also screen all of our patients for oral cancer, jaw joint problems, bruxism (excessive tooth grinding) and orthodontic issues.

We will take x-rays using a low dose digital x-ray system, which uses 66% less radiation than conventional x-rays. X-rays help us to see between the teeth and below the gums, to measure the bone levels that support your teeth. Photographs will be taken inside your mouth using a high magnification intra-oral camera, to aid in finding small problems before they become big problems.

We place a heavy emphasis on preventative measures to stop cavities and gum disease before they form. We will work with you to determine what your needs and goals are, and personalize a treatment plan to specifically meet them.

Dental Hygiene

A bright, healthy smile will only last if you give it the attention it needs. This includes a good regimen of oral care on your part, and regular visits to our office. We offer comprehensive exams and cleanings with one goal in mind: to help you improve and maintain your smile for life! Our dental hygiene program helps in preventing tooth decay, gum disease, bone loss, and systemic disease.

Dental Hygiene appointments will include a thorough cleaning and polishing of your teeth. The type of cleaning suited for you will be determined during your comprehensive exam. Our hygienists will work with you to ensure that your cleaning will be safe, effective, and comfortable. Patient education is also important to our doctor and hygiene team. Once your cleaning is complete, our team will take the time to discuss the many ways you can maintain your oral health between dental visits. This is also a good time to ask questions about your hygiene habits, the products you use on your teeth, and any treatment that may be needed.

Periodontal Disease

It is common knowledge that gum disease can lead to tooth loss, however you may be surprised to learn that the bacteria associated with gum disease can also cause more serious health conditions. Many studies have linked gum disease to an increased risk of:
  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Certain cancers
  • Difficulty controlling blood sugar levels in diabetes
  • Premature and low birth-weight babies
  • Chronic inflammation and stress
With the serious health risks associated with gum disease, Dr. Malloch and the hygienists at WestEnd Dental offer periodontal therapy to treat gum disease. Some people need more than just a basic cleaning every 6 months to attain periodontal health. Your hygienist will work with you to design a program that will give you the best chance to have healthy teeth and gums

Dental Fillings

Do you need a filling, but are not excited about a smile full of metal? Or do you wish you could replace your existing metal fillings with something more natural-looking?

Metal-free fillings are preferred by patients and dentists alike because they are both safer and nicer looking than metal fillings. We use tooth-coloured, composite resin fillings to mend decayed or damaged teeth. Composite fillings chemically bond to the tooth structure, sealing the tooth and locking out tooth-damaging bacteria. This means that minimal preparations can be made and valuable tooth structure is preserved. Composite resin fillings restore your tooth in a way that blends naturally with the rest of your smile.

Children's Dentistry

You want nothing but the best for your children! That’s why we provide comprehensive and preventive care to patients of all ages. You can feel confident knowing Dr. Malloch has the training and experience to care for your child’s smile the very best way possible.

The Canadian Dental Association recommends that children receive professional hygiene exams and cleanings every 6 months, because prevention is always better than treatment. By actively participating in the prevention of disease and decay through regular home care, professional exams and cleanings, as well as preventive dentistry such as sealants, you can play a key role in helping your child maintain a healthy, beautiful smile.

We realize that children need a place where they can feel safe, encouraged, and have fun while their oral health needs are being met. With an emphasis on prevention, detection, and early intervention, you can trust your child’s smile will stay strong and healthy for a lifetime.

We cannot stress how important it is for your child to begin seeing a dentist regularly from an early age. Call us to schedule your child’s first dental appointment with Dr. Malloch today!

Dental Appliances

Nighttime tooth grinding is an elusive problem because you may not know that you are doing it, and as a result, the damage to your teeth can go on for years. We check carefully for signs of abnormal wear on your teeth: back teeth flattened, and front teeth chipped or worn. We will also ask if you wake up with sore, tight muscles around your jaws, or headaches in the early morning. If you have any of these symptoms, we will investigate further to decide if a Nightguard could be right for you. A professionally made, custom Nightguard will deter you from grinding while you sleep, and will minimize the damage to your teeth, gums and muscles
Do you or your children compete in sports such as hockey, football, basketball, martial arts, etc? Some of the worst injuries that Dr. Malloch has seen over his career occurred from sports like these. A custom sports mouthguard can minimize the risk of fractured teeth, broken jaw bones and concussions. But the mouthguard must fit your mouth perfectly to cushion the teeth and jaws, and avoid these injuries. A store-bought mouthguard is worth what you pay for it – the less expensive, the less protection it will provide.
